Thank you, George: with all the sanctimonious nonsense being spouted by politicians and the media about what is, I believe, a private matter which never was anyone else's business, you have lifted the dialogue to focus on something which is both meaningful and important to all of us.
The two 'fundamental inner truths' you mentioned (wanting to see repentance before we forgive; and needing to forgive before we say so) are ones I shall try to take to heart and put into practice.
Although I haven't seen you in years, I'm prouder than ever to be able to call you my friend.
That's a very kind thing to say! Thankyou. We need more of that on the internet (maybe a column on it!).
Though I'm not sure your takeaway is quite right - I'm arguing that we don't need to feel contrition before we're forgiven (or to see it before we forgive). Sorry I wasn't clear (forgive me!)
Trust you're thriving and in good shape. Blessings ever, G
Yes, you're right, the internet needs a lot more of that - as do we all in the real world. (Which is why I try to say these things when the opportunity arises.)
Thanks for the clarification, but I'm guessing you're thinking of it in terms of 'man and god' while (being an atheist) I'm thinking of it between 'man and man'.
Over the last couple of years I've been confronted by a great deal of anger and confrontation, so I've been thinking about putting what you said into practice against those who've 'transgressed' against me.
In any case, I'm grateful for your stimulating me to such thoughts - and hope they work!
